YAY! Today is finally the day for my first official Florida related post since I’ve been back (not including my lookbook) Are you excited? I hope so, because I know I am! I can’t wait to reminisce all about my trip starting with Universal Orlando.
So on Friday the 7th of September, Emily and I jetted out to Florida for two weeks of adventure and excitement. We started off our trip at Loews Portofino Bay hotel, where we stayed for five nights. Portofino Bay is one of Universals nicest hotels and with a five star rating it was definitely a treat to stay there and we were very lucky as that’s where we were stuck inside for two days during Hurricane Irma! If you have to be on lockdown anywhere, I guess a five star hotel room is probably one of the best places you could be.
On the days we weren’t in lockdown we of course made the most of our time enjoying Universal. Each morning we would get a little boat over to the parks and spend our time alternating between Universal Studios and Universal Islands Of Adventure. I couldn’t say which park I preferred out of the two because I liked them both for different rides, so its great that its so easy to alternate between the two (especially thanks to the amazing Hogwarts Express which goes back and forth between parks).
The first ride we went on was The Simpsons ride which I thought was pretty awesome, especially for a virtual reality type of ride but my favourite ride at Universal Studios was definitely the Hollywood Rip Ride Rocket, a rollercoaster which allows you to choose your own music for the ride. The first time I went on I chose Pump It by the Black Eyed Peas to listen to and the second time I chose Kanye West’s Stronger, which I think was the better song for the ride. It made the experience of the rollercoaster so much more intense and exciting, plus listening to Kanye always makes me feel buzzed!
At Universals Island Of Adventure my favourite ride was definitely The Incredible Hulk rollercoaster, which I’ve read about on Jenny’s blog before. Again I loved the music element of this ride along with the fast pace of twists and turns, we went on this twice in a row because I loved it so much. Unfortunately after the hurricane we weren’t able to ride it again because the netting underneath which stops loose items falling onto the ground/ people had ripped, so it was closed for maintenance and hadn’t reopened by the time we were leaving. It’s okay though because like I said we did ride it twice and safety’s got to come first!
Some of the other rides I loved at Universal Islands Of Adventure were the water-y themed rides including the Jurassic Park River Adventure, which Emily also loved and Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls log flume. We got absolutely drenched on that ride but in the Florida sunshine, it was more than refreshing.
Along with Universal Studios and Universals Island of Adventure, Emily and I also made sure to spend one morning checking out Volcano Bay, Universals new waterpark. I didn’t snap any photos because naturally being surrounded by water I kept my phone safely tucked up in my locker, however you can see from this photo I nabbed off google how incredible it is.
It’s weird to say a waterpark took my breath away, but when I first arrived and caught a glimpse of that incredible volcano I was pretty much in awe. I love waterparks but I haven’t been to that many in my lifetime, but out of the ones I have been to Volcano Bay sure takes number one spot for being the best. My favourite ride was the Krakatau Aqua Coaster which was basically like a water rollercoaster and it was so awesome. I’ve never experienced a water ride quite like it, we went on it four times in total because we enjoyed it so much.
I would definitely go back to Volcano Bay if I was to return to Universal because I had so much fun there. I feel like I’m in my element when I’m in the water so naturally I loved it, but with all of the wonderful water rides and the glorious wave pool there’s really nothing not to love.
One of my favourite places at Universal was definitely City Walk which just made me feel so at home in America. America has always been one of my favourite countries in the world and I always feel so alive when I’m there and honestly, City Walk just amplified that feeling of living. With shops, restaurants and night life there’s something for everyone and Emily and I made sure to keep up our tradition of visiting a Hard Rock Café everywhere we venture to as we had dinner and drinks at Hard Rock Orlando. As always the food was delicious, the atmosphere electric and of course the cocktails tastier than ever. They even played music by the 1975 which I was so buzzing about because their music is just so vibey and it definitely helped to make our evening at Hard Rock Orlando one of my favourites of the trip.
As I wrap this post up now you’re probably thinking one thing… what about Harry Potter World?! Well, don’t you think that deserves a whole post of its own? Make sure you stay tuned because all things Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley will be coming up soon!
