The Biggest Book Haul You’ll Ever See | August 2020

Hola, beautiful people! How are YOU today?

I’m back again with another book haul, and since the last time I shared one, which was only in MAY, I’ve bought a whole ton of books. I love reading!!!

Despite the fact I only shared my most recent book haul a few months ago and I haven’t even gotten through all of those books yet (though I’ve definitely enjoyed a fair few), I just haven’t been able to resist buying even more, hence why I’m here today with a book haul that includes 21 books… yep, you read that right, 21 books. And I can’t help but feel as though I’m missing one? I was sure I’d bought 22, but either way, I have bought TWENTY ONE BOOKS in the past few months alone, I think I am set for the rest of 2020!!!

Without further ado, let’s jump into this epic book haul, maybe grab a drink or a snack or something, because there’s a lot to get through ;).

Home Going – Yaa Gyasi

I’ve seen this book recommended online – I can’t remember where, sorry! – and judging by the reviews it sounds like it’s going to be an incredible read. A story about two sisters, one sold into slavery, and the other a slave trader’s wife, this is going to be such an interesting, deep read which I’m really looking forward to. The review comments on the book are fantastic.

Taking A Chance On Love – Erin Green

I picked this book up randomly as I wanted more in my collection and this sounds like a sweet, romantic read. Judging by the blurb, this story is about three different women with different views on relationships. I can’t tell if they’re all friends, or if this is going to be three separate stories of three different women which ties together at the end, I really hope it’s the former as I love a good girly friendship in a novel, so I hope they’re all besties. Either way, I’m really looking forward to reading this one, I think it’s going to be a really sweet read. I may have to read it asap!

Queenie – Candice Carty-Williams

Another book I’ve seen all over the internet, I couldn’t resist buying this one despite it being one of the last books I purchased out of the ones in this haul. I mean, if I’m going to buy 20 books, what’s another one to add to that? And I really wanted this one! The front of this book has a snippet of a review from Dolly Alderton, who wrote the book ‘Everything I Know About Love’ which I thought was a brilliant read, and she described this book as ‘Hilarious, compelling, honest’ and said she loved it!!! I trust her opinion since I really enjoyed her book, so I’ve got a great feeling about Queenie. Ah, I am so excited to read this!

The Proposal – Jasmine Guillory

This book is what I’m expecting to be fun, flirty and romantic, so definitely something that I love. This seems to be a book all about a friends with benefits situation turned into a ‘I’ve caught feelings’ situation so I’m so looking forward to seeing how this story plays out and to feel all those lovey dovey feelings as I read. Hurray!

The Boyfriend Project – Farrah Rochon

I discovered this book thanks to Sumedha’s review which you can read here, and I bought it pretty much straight away! This book sounds epic, with friendship, romance and self development, what more could a gal want from a book?

Conjure Women – Afia Atakora

I believe I discovered this book over on Instagram as both @blackgirlthatreads and @beingabookwyrm have posted about it! This book seems a step out of what I usually read, I think it’s going to be something a little different for me and I am so excited to dive into this one. Antonia from @blackgirlthatreads says she would have preferred this book if she’d have read it more in one go as opposed to taking say, a week long break from it, so I’m going to make sure I read this book when I have time to focus on it properly so I can get the most enjoyment from it!

The Yorkshire Pudding Club – Milly Johnson

As a girl who loves her Yorkshire puddings, I’ve seen this book floating around in bookstores / at other peoples houses / wherever quite a bit and always been intrigued, I mean, what book could be more perfect for a girl who was once known to go to the pub and solely order a plate of Yorkshire puddings and gravy? Anyway, I recently read my first ever Milly Johnson novel – ‘My One True North’ and fell in LOVE with her writing, so I knew I had to treat myself to more of her work. Of course, this book was on the list. This book sounds so lovely, all about friendship, relationships and pregnancy, with the three different friends taking on a story, emotions and feelings of their own, I’m definitely looking forward to reading this one. If ‘My One True North’ is anything to go by, I just know I’m going to love this.

Girl, Woman, Other – Bernardine Evaristo

Another book which is something a little different for me, this book sounds like it’s going to be a real journey and an interesting read to get stuck into as it follows the story of 12 different characters, meaning there’s going to be so many experiences & different points of view to read in this book, different stories, different journeys all entwining together to make one book. I’m interested to read this one. I’ve also seen Bernadine has a couple of other books which I’m already intrigued by, perhaps they’ll be featured in my next haul. 😉

The Magnificent Mrs Mayhew – Milly Johnson

Another book by Milly Johnson, I saw @thebrightongirl give this book a lovely review over on her Insta, so being that I wanted to buy more from Milly, I thought this would be a great one to add to the list. Again, I’m looking forward to reading this story all about the magnificent Mrs Mayhew.

A Year In The Château – Sarah Long

Another random purchase here, I believe I bought this either online from ‘The Works’ or in store from The Works – that shop is so great to pick up books from! This story is all about a retired couple who buy a Château in France (hello, living the dream am I right), which sounds lovely, however as with any book, there’s more to the story than that, described by the Daily Mail as an ’emotionally intelligent read’, I’m very excited to read this book as I suspect there’s a lot more than meets the eye when it comes to the story, bring it on!

The Mummy Bloggers – Holly Wainwright

This story is about three different mummy bloggers who have been nominated for an award (I’m presuming to do with blogging), with a cash prize. I’m guessing the three women have been nominated separately, so this is the story of them competing against one another to win that award and of course, the cash! The reviews for this book are really positive, so I’m looking forward to this fun, humorous read.

The Morning After The Wedding Before – Laura Ziepe

This sounds like a really fun, chick lit read following the story of three friends, a trip to Vegas (woohoo- take me back), and of course, relationships. I’m really looking forward to reading this one, I already know I’m going to love the location!

The Two Lives Of Louis & Louise – Julie Cohen

This is another of the random books I picked up, and it sounds really intriguing with a little suspense and mystery. This book is about Louis & Louise (obviously), and one ‘catastrophic night with life changing consequences’. How can you not be drawn in by that? One of the comments on the book is by author Rosie Walsh who wrote ‘Ghosted’, one of my favourite novels I’ve read this year, she claims the book is ‘hugely original and heartbreakingly real’, based on this, I’m expecting great things from this book especially as Rosie’s ‘Ghosted’ was so well done, if she is giving such a review for ‘The Two Lives Of Louis & Louise’ it must be great.

Mindful Journaling Rewrite The Script Of Your Life – Tara Ward

So this is more of a journal than a book, but I’m going to count it anyway since I guess it’s both. I really enjoy little workbooks like this, with different exercises for you to do then journal about, I’m looking forward to getting involved in this one.

An American Marriage – Tayari Jones

I am so excited to read this book, I have a feeling it’s going to be quite emotional, and very deep, with such a great storyline, ‘An American Marriage’ is about a couple who are in love, when one day Roy is arrested and sent to jail for a crime he didn’t commit. This is going to be such a powerful read, whilst it may be emotional, I’m looking forward to diving into this story and seeing how it plays out and how it moves me.

It’s Raining Men – Milly Johnson

The last Milly Johnson book in this haul (though I’m sure there will be many more to come), I think I’ll be taking this on my girls holiday this month (eek, so exciting)! This story is about three best friends and a trip to the spa… located in a village which seems to have plenty of secrets. I’m so excited to read this story filled with friendship, and find out what those secrets are… this will be the perfect holiday read.

Awakening – Rebel Miller

This is the first book in the ‘Realm’ series and reading the blurb has me so intrigued. This sounds like such a mystical story, set in a futuristic society known as ‘The Realm’. I’m really excited to get lost in this world.

I Wanna Be Where You Are – Kristina Forest

I’ve seen this book recommend online a couple of different times, this is the story of Chloe, an inspiring dancer who chooses to follow her dreams, and with romance and hijinks along the way, I’m sure this book will be a lovely read.

Just My Luck – Adele Parks

This book sounds so intriguing and exciting. A story about a couple who win the lottery, their group of friends and the lengths the group of friends will go to to claim a share of that big lottery win, this book is bound to be filled with excitement and drama. I’m really looking forward to this one!

The Mastery Of Love – Don Miguel Ruiz

I discovered this book through Leeor Alexandra’s book recommendations list and I knew I had to have it, I keep feeling called to read this one so I am really looking forward to getting into this book described as ‘a practical guide to the art of relationship’. I already know I’m going to love this one, and I plan on reading it very soon.

A Village Affair – Julie Houston

This sounds like it will be a really heart-warming joyful read, the story about a new deputy head teacher who discovers her husband is having an affair with a close friend, this is her story all about her journey, and a year that though could have been her worse, could actually turn out to be her best. Sweet!

I have bought SO many exciting new books to read, and I am so keen to settle down and enjoy a good read soon! I am so thankful to have so many wonderful reads in my collection to enjoy.

Have you read any of the books mentioned in this haul?

What books have you purchased recently to add to your ‘tbr’ pile?

What are you currently reading?

As always thank you so much for reading,

with lots of love and light,
